Update: First Avenue South Construction on Monday and Tuesday
SEATTLE - Drivers are advised that E Marginal Way South, mentioned in
yesterday's traffic advisory as one of the alternate routes to avoid
construction on First Avenue South, may not be the best choice on Monday
and Tuesday, Mar 2 and 3.
There is a potential for traffic backups Monday and Tuesday near
entrances to some of Port of Seattle secured areas, including Terminal
46 located along the waterfront to the south of downtown. This is due
to enforcement of a new federal identification card requirement for
people entering the secured areas. Monday will be the first workweek day
that the enforcement will be in effect. There could be backups caused
if some truck drivers arrive at the terminals without the required
credentials.
The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates
Seattle's $12 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor
Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and
long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that
better connect the city with the region.
